This morning the phone rang and it was my parents excited to read the below article from the Winston-Salem Journal over the phone to me.
The article is about a guy from Forsyth County that won $1,000,000 on a lottery scratch off card. This guy also happens to be my first boyfriend and my first kiss!! Adam is a really great guy, and I really can't think of a better person or family that could have won the jackpot. This encouraged Brandon and I to go and buy some more lottery tickets ourselves this afternoon :) And of course it is also exciting to know someone who actually won. So, of course after that call this morning, it got me thinking about the past. I was a late bloomer when it came to boys. I was more of a "tom-boy" of sorts and enjoyed hanging out with the guys, but just didn't even think about dating until high-school. I was also pretty shy as well, and never had the courage to seek out boys, even if I had a crush on them. But, Adam was a great first boyfriend. I was 15 and a sophomore. We dated about 2 or 3 months, which is a long time when you are a teenager. My best friend, Rachel was dating Adam's twin brother, Billy, so that is how we met. In today's world, when you hear about peer pressure and teens having sex, I again look back and was really glad he was my first boyfriend, and first glimpse of the dating world. There was no pressure, and we just enjoyed talking on the phone and holding hands. And then I remember vividly the afternoon of my first kiss. Just an innocent peck, but something I had been waiting to do until I found the right guy. I had turned down chances to play spin-the-bottle in middle school, because I didn't want my first kiss to be something in front of a bunch of people sitting in a circle, and not with someone I didn't care about. Of course my dad reminded me that I was the one that called an end to Adam's and my relationship. He was a little younger, and even though today 2 years isn't a big deal, when you are in 10th grade and he is in 8th, it seems to be a lot bigger of a deal. I was preparing to get my license in a few months, and had a big crush on someone in my English class, and Adam was still in middle school and just preparing for high-school. I ended "us" shortly after the 8th graders did their annual tour of the high-school, and Adam yelled into my English class from the hallway, "Ginny, Call me tonight!" Of course to his friends, he looked pretty cool to be talking to a girl in 10th grade English, but to me, it was embarrassing - especially since my crush (and soon to be 2nd boyfriend) was sitting in the class with me. But, it wasn't because of Adam. He really was a great guy who came from a great family, and again, I am glad he was my 1st kiss. Adam was my stepping stone into the dating world. After him, dating started to get very confusing. There was peer pressure, and a lot of tears. But, such is life as a teenager. I don't even want to think ahead to when I will be a parent of a teenager!!
This is making you start to think about your 1st kiss, isn''t it?!?
